Womens Prison Association & Home Inc
WPA works with systems-involved women at all stages of criminal justice involvement, from guiding them through legal processes, advocating for alternatives to incarceration, providing housing, job training, reentry support and much more.
A high incarceration rate is just one of the devastating effects of the over-policing of Black people around the country. Because of heightened policing and racial disparities in resources(among other issues), there has been an ~800% increase of women in prison or jail over the last three decades, and one out of every 100 black women in the US is now incarcerated, which is 3 times the rate of women overall.
