Veteran Suicide Awareness Fund
Two years ago, I was introduced to a group of active military men and women stationed at Fort Bragg. Every year, they embark on a Veteran Suicide Awareness and Prevention bike ride - starting in Butler, Tennessee and concluding in Nags Head, NC. Every 22 miles, the group stops to honor family and friends who have committed suicide - statistics state that every day 22 veterans take their lives, with the number increasing post-pandemic. Our church has been a stopping point on their journey, where they could clean-up, sleep and recharge before biking again.
Suicide has effected our family, as well as the mental & physical struggles that follow suit of being a Veteran. This year, I plan to run 22 miles during the month of November, since that is when the ride will take place.
