Dear colleagues, With great enthusiasm, I am taking on the Africa Classic: a unique 6‑day mountain biking challenge around Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It is a sporting adventure I am really looking forward to, and one I am proud to dedicate to a cause that truly makes an impact. With this challenge, we are raising funds for AMREF Health Africa. AMREF has been working for more than 65 years towards a healthy Africa by training healthcare workers, providing basic healthcare, offering education, and ensuring sustainable access to clean drinking water. We have only one wish at the Institute for Ethnomedicine (dba Brain Chem Labs): to discover new treatments for serious illnesses. This focus has led to the discovery of two promising new drugs for ALS, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and other tangle diseases. We have a third drug in development. Our novel path to discovery has been exciting. Each step of this path, beginning in Guam, has brought us closer to a cure. What Brain Chem Labs (BCL) has accomplished over the last decade is truly remarkable with the advancement of discovery to development. The combination of innovative environmental field research and in-lab analysis has provided much hope for those suffering from these diseases and their families. In December 2024 my mother (Gerry) is diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). ALS is a fatal muscle and nerve disease, which results in muscle control loss. The average life expectancy is 3 years. My mother is a very active person, who is slowly getting caught in her own body. In the past, she was running marathons and cycled a lot on the race bike or mountain bike. Unfortunately, this is not possible anymore, but to stay active she is now cycling on a duo bike or takes a walk when possible. That’s why we will participate in the ALS Sunrise walk. We will walk, to raise money for research of the fatal muscle disease ALS. My team will walk 15 km and together with thousands of people we will walk towards the sunrise. MLM Bullies is a shelter for English/French bulldogs in need. Isabelle & Roland founded MLM Bullies in April 2019 out of a passion for the English/French bulldog breed. They have already cared for and rehomed over 380 dogs in just 5 years. The dogs receive the necessary medical care, nutrition, and, above all, lots of love before they are rehomed! “Money can buy you a fine dog, but only love can make him wag his tail.”
